If you do curtain, hang the bar higher than usual (level with the other windows in the room) and order extra long curtains online. It will make the room appear bigger and more to scale.

We have verticell blinds in the family room and a curtain in the master bedroom.

We put up two curtain rods, with one for sheers and one for curtains to be drawn at night. Easy enough.

Err, uh.... No can do on sliding glass doors - think about it.

They can be done -- I've seen them -- but the are not really practical or attractive.

I strongly disagree! Not only quite expensive, but they either cover up too much of the window or are cumbersome and require space nearby to open them.

Curtains which are hung with rings and are easy to slide are the best option.

Trying to decide what we should use -- thermal curtains, vertical blinds, window film? What has worked for you?
