Make in the crockpot! I like to either boil chicken breasts and shred or buy a $5 rotisserie chicken at the grocery store and shred and use that. This dip is always a hit!

SIL from NY is that you?
(This is the OP. My SIL makes this for family parties and it is ridiculously delicious!)
Side note to those of you suggesting hot foods, how do you keep them warm during transport? Crockpot?

Not your SIL, but I think she has great taste!

Ha! I was totally convinced she had discovered DCUM (grew up here) and would be able to recognize all my neurotic FTM posts on General Parenting. What a relief. And, yeah, she does have great taste! DH loves this dip too. I'm definitely going to make it (and brats) for the Oct game. Too hot tomorrow for anything but Italian heroes.

I don't tailgate, but if I wanted something meaty and substantial but cold, I would do fried chicken strips. I don't like the bones. Panko and fry that chicken and pack it up cold with some dips. Really good.

My friend makes what she calls Philominis. Baguette sliced into rounds, topped with hatch green chiles and Monterrey Jack and baked til the cheese is melted. SO FREAKING GOOD.

JalapeƱos stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon and baked are always a hit.

What are some of your go-to football tailgate foods? We have three college football games to attend in the next month and I'd like to spice up our usual fare(sandwiches, dips cookies). We will not be bringing a portable grill/doing any cooking there. Thanks for any ideas!
