6th grade graduation dress. DD was very well developed and I figured out quickly that the strapless styles provided perfect cleavage coverage.

Active young girls most of the time don't want to wear them as they just slip when playing actively. I wouldn't have a problem with it though. She can figure out herself if and when a strapless gets too slippery and she should rather wear something that stays put. In general I don't find adding a tiny spaghetti strap to a tube makes it any less sexy/provocative/whatever you were looking for so it's all the same to me - except for the added mobility factor.

For us it was very much a case by case thing, some strapless garments were a flat out never whereas approval for others varied. The general style of strapless top/dress she could wear whenever -- we never put an age on it, seemed too arbitrary -- as long as the outfit was appropriate for the place/occasion/activity and her belly & all undergarments & body parts covered by undergarments remained covered with the top/dress where it was supposed to be. This was the limiting factor because she has a very small figure, so lots of things didn't fit properly, and other outfits she may have wanted were just too skimpy & revealing to pass the 'appropriateness' standard. She could never wear strapless to school due to the dress code.

"Her friend gave it to her", i know she just asked if she could have it because she knows i would never buy one for her. The thing is its quite casual, nothing provocative and it would be nice for a warm day. Now Im honestly torn whether or not i should let her keep it. What do you say?

When she wanted to, but not to school. She didn't want to until she was a senior in high school. She didn't have the boobs to hold the top up, and changed out of it after a few hours.

OP it really depends on the rest of the outfit and your daughter's figure.

If the rest of the outfit is "conservative", no belly hanging out and breasts are not overflowing and are she's wearing a strapless bra - then I think it's fine.

On the other hand, if she wears it with hoochie shorts and her breasts and belly are coming out - then nope!
OP here, thanks for your comment. She is about half matured and in good shape.

Even for homecoming and stuff - she has always worn dresses that had straps. I am sure if she finds a strapless dress that looks awesome and appropriate for the occasion, she will wear it.

your very lucky most teen girls including mine are all into going strapless. Does she wear halter straps?

Exhibit A to support the thesis that a dress code actually regulates female bodies, not clothes.

I would not let my daughter wear a strapless top to school, because strapless clothes require constant tugging, which would distract her from her schoolwork. But at home, it's her decision.

Never. My DD was too busty to wear strapless tops.

My parents, who were pretty strict, let me start freshman year for dresses.

Dresses - junior year. She doesn't care for the strapless tops, thankfully.

I would have to see it but to be honest I haven't really seen anyone wear a tube top the entire summer. They may be out of style anyway.
