I'm going to do this. The large tree in the front formal living room, since our ornaments and tree is pretty formal (from pre-kids days). Then a fun tree in the family room, just for the kids. I'm glad you have such nice memories of that. I want to create those memories for my kids. Bonus, the fireplace is actually in the family room and not in the formal living room, so we can have stockings there and do fun gifts. Now I can't wait

We have a similar set-up and have two trees. We always open our presents in our more formal front room (which has a large tree) and have a slightly smaller tree and stockings in our back family room. I like having two trees. We entertain during the holidays and love the holiday spirit/decor.

Family room. I want to see the tree when I'm home. I don't care what people driving on the street see. I can always put a wreath and lights on windows.

+1. We have the same setup and put the tree in the family room. We also put a small "kid's" tree in the front.

We have the exact same setup. We plan on putting it in the living room that faces outwards. Mainly because we have lots of room in there for a nice train setup, etc. In our casual family room we'll put the stockings on the fireplace and have a smaller live tree.

Also, as an aside- use your living room more! Don't have a room that you don't like to use.

My house has the formal living and dining room in the front of the house and and the family room in the back of the house. Would you put the tree in the formal room in front of the window facing the street or would you put it in the family room where no one would see it unless you were inside?

I prefer it in the family room because it's nice to have just the tree on at night time while watching tv and also the family room is big and open to the 2nd story so it would fit nicely in the area. BUT I am sad that we wouldn't have the tree in the front window like we had growing up (the living room was in the front of that house). WWYD? 2 trees maybe?

Clearly I have a lot of time to think so no need to point that out
