This might be more of a home improvement question, but I figured I'd try here. I live in a rowhouse that has a covered front porch, which makes the living room quite dark. The front of the house faces West, which adds to the problem. Some neighbors have added skylights the porch roof, which helps, but because of the angle of the sun, I'm not sure they direct that much additional light in the house. Those porches can also get really hot.
Would it make sense to put three tunnel skylights in instead? That would reduce the heat transfer and have the added benefit of directing the light into the house. I'm just not sure how much additional light they can add.
