They add a ton of light. I saw one in my parents house in an internal bathroom with no windows. It was a dim day out, and their bathroom was bright with no lights on. Almost spooky.

Solatubes are one of the best inventions ever...give great light, can be run to get southern light to dark rooms, and easy to install with no maintenance.

We added several to our bathrooms and I really like the light they provide.

we installed one in a bathroom and it gives an amazing amount of light and very little heat. Its a small 10 inch one (I think). Im seriously considering adding one to our passage (which has no windows) because I love looking in the bathroom and seeing all that natural light as I walk down the dark passage...

This might be more of a home improvement question, but I figured I'd try here. I live in a rowhouse that has a covered front porch, which makes the living room quite dark. The front of the house faces West, which adds to the problem. Some neighbors have added skylights the porch roof, which helps, but because of the angle of the sun, I'm not sure they direct that much additional light in the house. Those porches can also get really hot.

Would it make sense to put three tunnel skylights in instead? That would reduce the heat transfer and have the added benefit of directing the light into the house. I'm just not sure how much additional light they can add.
