Kenmore redesigned hteir canister a couple of years ago. We had the old one and "upgraded" to the new one and it was awful. Much more cheaply made, hard to use, incredibly heavy ... ugh

NP who also loves her Kenmore. It's the Intuition. Is about five years old and has survived longer than any other vacuum cleaner I've ever had.

NP. My Kenmore canister is about 10 years old. No issues.

OP here, glad to hear some people love their Kenmores! Some of the reviews I've read have stated bad suction, plastic parts break easily, hose is too short to do behind/under furniture and blinds/ceiling fans.

Also that the newer models (2013) are not as sturdy as the older ones. Are yours newer or older?

We just got a Miele Fresh Air, which is apparently a sort of promotional machine as it is an S8 model marketed toward allergy sufferers. It is equivalent to the Kalima. I bought it at Strosnieders for $100 lower than I found online, and in September you also get a free $50 HEPA filter w purchase.

I think you can buy another head for plush carpets. I am in love. Our low pile carpet has never been as clean. It has an attachment I used for baseboards, and it was done in minutes. We have been using a Dyson upright. Hated it.

Consumer Reports recommends Kenmore, but they all have terrible reviews, just wondering what others use. I've heard Miele's are great for wood floors and low carpeting, but not for plush carpeting. Any other recs?
