I don't know about difficulties hanging on plaster, but you can do placement yourself.

You lay down the pictures on the floor and arrange and rearrange to see how you think they should go together. Then you lay each picture down on brown craft paper (or in a pinch a newspaper) and outline them. Mark on the paper where the nail should go (probably need to stretch the wire in the back and measure how far it is from the top of the frame then measure down an equal amount on the paper). Cut out the outlines (and label if you need to distinguish one picture from another).

Then arrange the outlines on the wall using painters tape to attach them--you can fuss around with placement; if you're set on exact distances, you can bring out your ruler and measure instead of eyeballing. Nail through the spot you marked on the paper and tear away the paper. Hang the picture.

I have so many framed items waiting to be hung. This is a great idea! Don't know who does it though.

There is SUCH a market for this! A friend hired someone to do this ages ago, but she's no longer in the area.

I would love someone like that. Hanging pictures is one of those things that seem easy but never is for us.

i'd love to know too. when hanging my stuff, i've often thought i should open up a service, but i suck at it. i asked my friend whose mother is an interior decorator and she said her mom eye-balled it.

I don't know ... I once hired a guy to do that and he messed it up!! Hung a painting over a fireplace and miscalculated the halfway point! I was so shocked, I didn't even point it out to him ... Hope some recommendations come up on this thread.

My spouse would need step by step instruction, and would make a mess of the plaster. I know that there are people who do this because my mom is a decorator and has someone who does this in all her clients' houses. She just lives in a different state so I can borrow her installer.

how about the your spouse?

We've moved into a new home with plaster walls and some expensive wallpapers. I know pretty much how I want the artwork arranged, but want someone else to deal with taking exact measurements to ensure placement, ladders where artwork hangs on stairwell, and getting it right the first time to minimize damage.

Can anyone refer someone to do this? I do have a handyman, but I'm looking for someone with more of an eye so that I don't have to stand over them and tell them how to center and space everything.
