I'd drop by school A LOT in the next couple of weeks. Always unannounced, always trying to peep in for a few minutes before teacher sees you. I don't care how creepy it sounds, I have done this at 2 schools and it's the only way for me to really get a pulse on whats happening in classroom and how to approach teacher, Principal or someone else.

I would ask too. Do you drop off or pick up? Ask at that point, oh my child told me xyz. Do you know what happened.

I don't think K kids getting hit is all that normal, certainly not for my kids, and I've had kids in different ES for K. It does happen from time to time, but it's not daily.

Last year mine came home with battle wounds almost daily from the "bad" kids hitting him

I would absolutely ask the teacher. It doesn't hurt to be proactive. Just approach it with curiosity (vs suspicion or accusation) and be open to the response. If nothing else, you are making your concerns known and the teacher is aware that you are an aware, involved parent who listens to your child.

DS started K last week and I would absolutely not think it is normal for him to be getting hit at school. Absolutely email the teacher. The always yelling would also bother me. Not good signs.

I would watch this carefully for now it doesn't seem like you think your child is in imminent physical danger, right?

If that's true, I wouldn't contact the teacher. For all you know your kid did do something, the teacher saw it and noticed no one was hurt and let them work it out on their own.

Also, while volunteering, I've seen one kid accuse another of hitting/pushing/etc. when in reality the other kid just bumped into him or tapped him.

Have you had back to school night? You can ask about discipline procedures, since the "always yelling" is probably a bigger deal than a one-off hitting that didn't injure.

It's really hard to tell. My DC says the same thing when in fact, DC did do something.

Anyway, since this is the very first time, and your DC is not hurt, I would just let the teacher know it happened and leave it at that. But keep an eye/ear out for anymore incidents.

It depends. Was it an accident? Sometimes my now 1st grader will say so-and-so hit me, when it turned out to be just an accident.

If it wasn't an accident, then I would email the teacher to let her know what happened so that she can keep an eye out on this kid. Also, you now have a record of this communication.
