Thanks, Jeff, I really appreciate it. Sorry to hear about the moth-eaten suit, but glad the tux was still in working condition!

Heh - well maybe Jeff could just delete one of my (OP there and here) responses that I think is too identifying, in that case - on page 3, where I explain why my husband only has one suit. Call me paranoid! But I just don't want the bride and groom knowing that we are the guests who took to DCUM to bitch about their wedding.

I went with this compromise -- and also removed the messages in which you were quoted -- because 12:29's contribution to world culture was irreplaceable.

That thread reminded me of the last time I was invited to a black tie wedding. I own a tux -- which even fits -- but I had just discovered that my suits had been eaten by moths. I thought I was going to have to buy a suit for the wedding, but then learned that it was black tie (my tux survived the moths). I couldn't have been happier.

I think maybe we are all the crazy one. And we have to do. I don't know what your world is like, but we have some social obligations we have to fulfill, even when they are annoying.

OP, if they aren't really feeding you but expect the guests to go to the expense and/or hassle of black tie, they should know that they are out of line.

No, you're totally right, but I thought I'd wait to tell them how I feel until the actual ceremony, so it'll have the biggest impact.

Not to you, I'm sure - but this couple may well see the post, and I don't think they'd have to do too much sleuthing to know who wrote it.

Again, I apologize - and acknowledge this is dumb, but I'd rather not stir anything up with folks we know if I don't have to. People are nuts about weddings, gahd love them, and it's up to the guests to bitch about it in ways that don't get back to the couple.

Seriously, come on. There's nothing identifying in that thread. The DC area is home to millions of people - if you're even in the DC area.

People are weird.

I meant to keep it an anonymous, lighthearted little post, but ended up giving enough details that if the couple in question reads this - which they may - they will probably know who posted it.

Thanks so much, and I promise to be more careful/discreet in the future.
