What I did last year is I made multiple cuts of tulle the length of my DD. Then I ran a string about 6 inches from the top of each piece. So when you cinched it up it created this voluminous dress that ties around the neck. Then tie a beautiful ribbon around the waist. She was a winter fairy. So I dressed her in white and did white tulle. We did a silver bow around the waist and did little silver leaf garland in her hair. Then I glued crystals randomly on the dress. It was sparkly and simple and people asked me how I did it all night. Easy!

21:05 - I was actually looking for something like that, but they all start at 2 y/o sizes. Given the few measurements I found, they'd be too big. That's about when I decided "how hard can it be?" (and yes, I totally equate that phrase with the "I'll be right back" in a horror movie,,, it rarely ends well!)


I bought the 3 colors of tulle and the ribbon from amazon for $15 total. It doesn't seem like it will take much more than an hour or so to make the tutu. It may not be the most "polished" costume, but it'll definitely be better than spending $50 on an actual princess costume!!!

OP again - THANK YOU!!!!!! I have very basic sewing skills - I can hem pants or skirts, mend basic tears, have made a simple skirt or two. Can I make a living? NO!! Can I make a tutu? Hopefully!

I went on Amazon and bought white, orange and black tulle, with some purple ribbon to throw in somewhere. I think this last tutu tutorial will make the perfect "princess" skirt! I'll put a few ribbons in her hair, and maybe give her a wand of some kind, and be done with it. I doubt DS will have an opinion on what a princess looks like, as long as she's "fancy"

I bought some yellow reflective tape which I basted to some khaki pants we already owned, and a yellow fireman's hat (which he still plays with), both on Amazon, for DS's 1st Halloween. Gave him a flashlight and called it a day. He was adorable, if I do say so myself. GL!

OP, look for a no sew tutu tutorial. So easy. You basically knot strips of tulle around a ribbon.

Tulle?

I've bee looking for princess costumes for my 1 year old, and they are STUPID expensive for what they are. DD *has* to be a princess because my 4 y/o DS has decided he's going to be a dragon and "dragons protect princesses".

SOOO.... I'm trying to find a fairly quick and easy way to improvise a princess costume. I think I could make a little skirt like this easily enough, but I don't know what words to search for to find the fabric, so I'm not finding what I need. I know I could go to a brick and mortar store and ask there, but haven't found the time yet.

Any thoughts would be great!
