Definitely see a specialist. Reading is not going to force the lazy eye to work. A pediatric ophthalmologist who specializes in amblyopia is going to be so much more knowledgeable and helpful.

Go see Vike Vicente. He is conservative when it comes to treatment and will not recommend anything that's not warranted and will present options when there are different courses of action to take. The pp who said that a child with strabismus is at risk of losing binocular vision is correct--it shouldn't wait and he's not too difficult to get an appt with.

Take her to a pediatric ophthmalogist. You need to make sure you are getting expert care. I had a lazy eye (ambylopia) as a kid and had to do numerous eye exercises with an OT for years (and daily eye exercises, which I still remember - ugh). I am told my left eye still wanders off when I'm tired but I don't notice anything awry.

Go get a second opinion. If your daughter doesn't develop binocular vision now, she may never.

Has anyone else had a child diagnosed with lazy eye? If so, what treatment did your doctor prescribe? I am questioning why our doctor said she should just read and read more, rather than wear a patch as I know some children that have done that with a lazy eye.
