Contact the MD States Attorney's office. if they can't help you directly - they will at least know the contact of the giverning board that can assist.

Sorry, this may not be what you want to hear, but....

We have two kids and 4 of their investment funds (because both DCs fall between their fund dates). It's been incredibly easy all along. One kid is in college now, out of state (NY state). All I have to do to get the money disbursed every semester is call them up and say how much, they even keep a record of the college cashier's mailing address, so I don't have to tell them where to send the check.

But, sorry you're having a hard time with them.

OP here, no one has had any experience like this with MD prepaid college trust?

I remember reading a thread on here a while back (can't find it now) about difficulties in drawing down funds, particularly if the child was attending out of state. Something about faxing in the request and having to wait months for reimbursement. We went ahead and set up these accounts anyway, since others commented on that thread that the issues had been remedied and they weren't having problems drawing down funds any more.

We set up prepaid college trust accounts last year. We have 4 accounts (one account per parent per kid). 3 of the 4 are set up incorrectly! We took the annual payment option, but had double withdrawals (in May and August) from 3 of the 4 accounts. Also the fees are incorrect (there is a different fee depending on whether you also have an investment account) and the withdrawal amounts don't line up either!

We have called their customer service line many, many times over the past few months. Each time we are told that they are taking notes, and will get back to us with a call in 2 business days. We have not been called back even once! So, we have now documented all of the issues in writing, and sent via fax (with a fax confirm). Still, no response. We can't even get the customer service person to confirm to us that they've received our fax!

It's just insane. We are now about to resend as a registered letter and I guess the next step is to call our bank and dispute the withdrawals. I can't believe the total, utter lack of customer service.

Curious if others have experienced similar problems? Were we crazy to think we could set this up ourselves? In practice do others do this through a financial advisor?

Any tips on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
