It's happened to me a few times, but none of them worked out long term. An infatuation is neither lust nor real love - I think it's supposed (along with lust) to get people connected enough to actually get to know each other and fall in love...but sometimes that doesn't happen.

This happened to me out of the blue. It was total mutual infatuation + perfect timing. The guy suggested we get married after we'd known each other three days. This did not sound at all crazy to me, because I was thinking the same thing. I am not an impulsive person. Neither is he.

We got married. We've been married for almost 25 years. Kids came along, and they grew up, and now we are enjoying being empty nesters. We both have wrinkles and we wear bifocals. We both weigh more than we did on the day we met. We sag in funny places. However, I still look forward to seeing him every time he comes in the door. Literally, something lights up inside me a little bit. I feel it in my chest, in a really good way. He is as cuddly and sexy as ever, very attuned to me. We've had ups and downs, but more ups than downs. But through everything, there was always that chemistry to hang on to.

I don't understand physical chemistry, but I know it matters. It is at the root of the mutual infatuation we felt on the day we met, and it is still there. I don't know if I could have gotten married and stayed married to someone with whom I felt no spark.

handful of times in my life. for me, its not just seeing someone. its the initial attraction/conversation/zing and when its totally instant, AND mutual its pretty exciting.

Hey maybe I would have said the same for the next 3 guys, but I truly did just know, he was the one. Interestingly, later on I had more doubts as we went through long distance and then kids etc.

Okay, but OP says it doesn't happen "often" but it has happened several times. How is your experience relevant to that?

I met my husband as a teen, we married after college and I certainly remember the first time I saw him. I clearly remember thinking wow I'm going to marry that guy. Yeah, it was some lust, but also just a feeling I can't describe.

We've had our ups and downs, but really we do have just a strange, strong connection in our souls. We are quite different, but have some binding personality traits and scars from childhood that just make us get each other.

Only once for me ('mutual' being the key word here). It lasted 3 years.

I feel that way whenever I look at Jon Bon Jovi. Or Alexsander Skarsgaard. Mmmmmm
