Does that include fat jokes about women (Liz taylor, Kate winslet, Adele) and dumb jokes about women too (Cindy crawford)? What an outstanding female example!

Seriously? She was a mean "comedian" who hit below the belt and exploited other people's misfortunes for cheap laughs (like Lindsay Lohan). She was nothing special.

Well, but, she was special. If you didn't like her humor, fine. But, she broke a lot of glass ceilings. She also, refreshingly, owned who she was. And received as good as she gave in the criticism/make fun department. Not a lot of people can say that.

And, despite her comedy (which many didn't like), many people who actually knew her thought a great deal about her. Nancy Reagan, for one. As well as lots of other people. They actually knew her; you didn't.

Yes, this., I have a friend who worked as a waiter in a restaurant she used to frequent and he says she was always very nice to him.

Didn't anyone ever tell you it's not nice to speak ill of the dead?

You know you CAN turn the TV off....

I am definitely not seeing the big news stories like with RW. It's that awkward situation when no one wants to make a big to-do about it.

Anyone with a fifty-year career in show business is by definition special.

I understand even the most malicious and obnoxious comedians have a good side and I'm sure Joan Rivers was a good person to some people in her life, but the over-emotional outpouring of grief, as if she was Mother Theresa, has really been grating on me today. Maybe because I've got the TV on and the news won't stop talking about her.
