I'm 34 and haven't had one, but I am very prone to gum disease. I once had a dentist tell me I could probably stop brushing my teeth and still wouldn't get one. Gingivitis though...that would be a problem.

None until I was about 32 and then had one. When we moved to this area a dentist in Alexandria said I needed SEVEN fillings. I had a check-up six months earlier when I was told that all was well.

I ignored the dentist and never went back to him again. Since then - years later - I have had one more filling.

Never- 45. Unfortunately my 9 yo has made up for my excellent dental health with something like 12 cavities. Before the crazies flame me, some of his molars are almost totally missing enamel. Can't wait for the permanent molars to replace the crappy ones.

I had my first cavity at 45.

My husband is the same. You have strong enamel consider yourself lucky.

Never had one until I was 45. Then I got one ins a wisdom tooth and it had to be pulled. Not the best first cavity to have.

OP here, and my dentist said the same thing.

39, never had a cavity. No sealants or anything. Count yourself (and myself) lucky. 92% of adults 20 to 64 have had dental caries in their permanent teeth (source NIH.)

Gotta watch out with the dentists though. The pediatric dentist wanted to fill a bunch of "pre-cavities" on my child's teeth. Switched to another pediatric dentist, who said everything was fine.

My husband is 40, and never had a cavity. He just returned from his once-every-three-years visit to a dentist, and - knocking on wood here - nothing!

I got my first one at 36 while pregnant. The pregnancy books are right, pregnancy does deplete your calcium supply.

Has anyone else never had a cavity? I'm 35, usually just brush once a day, and don't avoid sugar. I had a sealant put on my molars as a child, which maybe helped.

Two years ago, a dentist told me I had 2 "pre-cavities" he wanted to drill out and fill. I got a second opinion: no cavities. Two years later, still none. I'm still shocked at how unethical that first dentist was.

Anyway, I feel lucky to have strong teeth I guess. But my fingernails are very brittle, and you'd think they'd be related.
