Oh for goodness sakes, OP. My DD wanted chicken tenders as those are her favorite days to buy - she bought on day one.

Wow. You are a delight, OP. Will you be joining the PTA?

This. My DC occasionally buys lunch and was assigned a pin at the beginning of K - as did every other kid. So there is no way for anyone to know who gets free lunch and who doesn't. I got free lunch for part of high school, but it didn't really bother me because several of my friends also got free/reduced lunch and we all had the same lunch card.

350K HHI, my kindergardner bought lunch and wanted to type his pin in. We also have a nanny who can cook and pack lunch if needed. We assume he may get bored of the school lunch and will bring in from home as needed in the future.

Please don't use the purchase of lunch as a way to profile kids so your snowflake gets exposure to "different" kinds of children.

And, while your husband may have hated the free lunch ticket, a lot of my students past and present were/are grateful to eat.

We're very well off and my daughter bought lunch the first day of K. She was excited to buy a hot lunch in the cafeteria.

No. Many kids buy lunch every day regardless of family income.

Also, I am pretty certain most schools now have some type of pin code system for lunch so there is no "free lunch ticket" any more.

I'm not. We live in a diverse neighborhood. I'm genuinely just curious.

I married a free lunch kid. DH worked his ass off and has an ivy league education. He hated having the free lunch ticket. Now he earns a very high six figure income. I actually hope DS becomes friends with kids from different backgrounds.

My child said 5-6 kids in his class bought lunch and everyone else brought lunch. This number matches perfectly to the FARMS rate at our school.

Are these the kids who get free lunch?

Did any other kindergarten moms have their kids buy lunch on the first day of school?

Everyone we know sent lunch in.
