Less intense sun in Iceland! PP, you are a moron. Either don't go to a beach, wear lots of high SPF sunscreen, or only go out to the beach late in the day. Where would you really expect to find a popular beach vacation site that is mostly cloudy?

Not the caribbean, but the northern part of Kauai.

Ok, how about this:

Costa Rica during rainy season? Stay near the jungle/rain forest. That's all I got.

Or, how about this: stay at a resort with umbrellas? Heard they are pretty good at providing some shade from the sun.

Went to a beach town in Costa Rica in off season (due to free ticket timing and being pregnant), it rained starting at about 4:30 5 every day, but started to get a bit overcast in the mid afternoon and then cleared up most days by about 7:30. We did have 2 of the 6 days that were completely sunny though with no rain. The other days it was bright and sunny from sunrise to about mid afternoon. Still loved it.

I actually think that you would be better off during dry season. Rainy season (summer-fall) is so hot and humid and the rain won't do much to cool you off. If you don't love super-hot, then I recommend going in February and finding the shady beaches. Go to a lush island, like Cayman or Jamaica because there can be a lot of shade. Shady beaches in Cayman include Governor's Beach, Smith Cove, and Rum Point. Dry islands like Aruba may not have as much shade.

We went to Central America in October and it rained all day long nearly every day we were there. It was not fun.

Take/rent umbrellas, buy/wear long sleeve rash guards, buy/wear wide brim hats, buy/use consistently high SPF waterproof sunscreen.

Or go somewhere else. The Caribbean is nearer to the Equator, and as such, will have more intense sun. I have never gotten a tan like I did when I went to Key West for the same reason (and I wore sunscreen).

Think: I should probably read the subject line next time. Unless you meant the Oregon coast that recently joined the Caribbean, that one.

Yup, New England could be just the ticket for you. Also, going early or late in the day works.

Somewhere near a rainforest?

I would just rent a house with a pool and go to the beach in the early morning or late afternoon.

I know this sounds like an oxymoron, but we love the beach and tropics, but hate sun (or a lot of sun). Any recommendations for cloudy beach trips? Have you been somewhere in the Caribbean, and annoyed that it was cloudy the whole time? That may be just the place for us!
