Levantes makes it in DuPont circle. We buy a bunch freeze and the use as needed. Put them in the oven frozen for 15 minutes..... Cheese stretches a mile long and buttery dough is crispy yet fluffy.

There are different kinds of Georgian khachapuri. I wouldn't eat adjarian varianty (with undercooked egg) anywhere other than my own home either.

Russian stores sell Georgian type (stuffed with cheese). They do bake in store daily AFAIK, nothing sits on the shelf.
They would also most likely sell you uncooked ready to bake khachapuri if you ask them.

I wouldn't want it sitting on a shelf. I've had it in Georgia and it is best fresh.

You can check Russian Gourmet store in Rockville (Nicholson lane & 355) or Taste of Europe in Gaithersburg (Quince orchard & Clopper rd)
Both are grocery stores with some store-baked goods including khachapuri.
AFAIK there are no restaurants in the area that serve it.

I read about Khachapuri in the Post this weekend and can't stop thinking about it! I know the Compass Rose in NW has it, but does anyone know of anywhere in northern MoCo (Rockville, Gaithersburg, etc.) where I could try a good one?
