My DH is one of my best friends but we also have other best friends from when we were younger. No big deal if they are the opposite sex.

Hell no. And no I wouldn't be okay with it.

DH and I have had "best" friends of the opposite sex, at work and at different moments of our lives. DS has a girl best friend, they have known each other since they were 2, and are really like brother and sister.

My DH is my husband and my best friend is my best friend. I don't co-mingle them. To me they are completely different relationships.

My best friend happens to be a guy. We have been best friends since grade school. We made it through grade school and middle school and high school together. We went to different colleges but lived together in DC when we graduated. We have also made it through the death of parents and his sibling. Plus the death of my first marriage. We see each other weekly and talk daily. All good. My husband isn't friends with him since he has his own friends.

My wife is best friends with her brother...which is cool. Other than that...not cool.

Female here. I have a guy friend. He used to be a very good friend of mine until I got married. When I got married my husband became my best friend. My guy friend is ok because I am not attracted to him at all and I don't over share with him. Meaning, I don't cry on his shoulder for anything, I don't talk to him about sex, and i don't overly flirt with him.

+2. My DH is my best friend. Married people should not have "best friends" of the opposite sex. It's inappropriate and a recipe for disaster.

My husband has a best friend that is a female. Doesn't bother me at all. They grew up together. She is pretty cool if I must say so myself.

My DH has a best friend who is female and it doesn't bother me. She is a great friend and they have known each other for a long time. She is single.

And if so, are you okay with it? What if that best friend is single?
I am of the school of thought that your spouse doesn't need a best friend of the opposite sex. I don't know what they would offer that me as a spouse wouldn't.
Am I just being completely insecure?
