And about as fugly as they come. The Patagonia Down Sweater is great for this climate. I wear it on all but a few (very cold) days.

You need to layer if going outdoor in cold weather. This is when you want the lightest and least bulky. Otherwise, a light down coat will not be enough. You will be better off with a heavier coat if you do not layer.

I bought this coat and LOVE it. Love love love love love it.

Its very light weight, so comfortable, versatile, warm, very flattering (no horizontal stripes, form fitting, comes in petite) . I am thinking about buying a second one, in case they stop making them!

Agree with the Patagonia Down Sweater. Super lightweight. The downside is that it is not windproof (hence the sweater moniker) so not good for outdoor activities in the winter. I can't use mine for skiing, even in the spring, but it's great as a casual jacket for most of the winter around here.
