I agree w/the pp. Pairing shorter skirts with opaque tights or sweater tights is key. The top also matters; stay conservative/classic and you can get away with shorter on the bottom.

All that said, I think more than age it's really what makes you comfortable, what looks best on your body type, and type of environment you are in that matter more w/ regard to wardrobe. I've worked in places before where people literally came in wearing their pajama bottoms and sweatshirts at times (this was not in DC; shocker!).

I've found that you can get away with shorter skirts with opaque tights or leggings

It's fine. I've noticed that WHBM has high hemlines. I'm wearing a dress of their today and it is a few inches above the knee, but I'm wearing it with flats.

Ok- I'm a little off with the numbers the dress I'm wearing is 4" above the top of my knee when standing ( I had my coworker measure) with a pair of 3.5" nude patent pumps.
I buy my work and dress clothes at AnnTaylor, White House Black Market, Banana Republic etc- nothing from Forever 21 although my DH would love it.

I'm thinking I'm ok for a little while longer before I'll need elastic waist jeans and a pair of beige naturalizers.
Thanks ladies!

are you wearing this to the office? Or a night out? I'd say 6" above the knee is inappropriate at any age in a work environment. Otherwise, excluding minis, wear what you want.

I'm so short that 6 inches above my knee would be obscene!

I'm 41, and also think that you should wear what makes you feel good and looks good. It's hard for me to imagine being able to wear skirts that short, but that's because I am super short myself. Most of my skirts are about 2-3 inches above the knee. Longer than that and I feel like my clothes look like they don't fit.

I'd probably stay away from mini skirts. Other than that, as long as the top doesn't scream (I'm trying to dress in my 20s) I think the 6 inches is fine.

i'm 42 and my fashion motto is "there are no rules," but i think 6" above the knee sounds a bit too short, especially with heels. it doesn't sound like a sharp, sophisticated look. knee length or 1-3 inches okay.
but i haven't seen your legs.

As long as you don't worry your butt will show when you lean over it's fine. I'm in the camp of everyone should wear what makes them feel good though.

I have a few skirts and dresses that fall about 6" above the knee, my legs are still good, no veins or jiggle and I usually wear a 3-4" closed toe heel or 3" wedges. I usually stick to the rule of the shorter the skirt the lower the heel but I have a few which could be considered mini skirts which I'll wear with flats.

I'm wondering if I've aged out of my wardrobe?
