Talking about Chesapeake is pointless. People don't live on Gibson Island and send their kids to Chesapeake. They just don't.

There are other waterfront options in the area if you want the public route.

Chesapeake is a 4/10 because a lot of Pasadena is pretty poor. I am a part-timer on Gibson Island but have met a couple of families with kids who live there full time. They send their kids to private school in Baltimore, which is a hike. It is a pretty wonderful place in my opinion (I guess WASPy is a fair statement, but becoming less so), but it strikes me that it might be a bit lonely for kids.

Most of the “poor” part of Pasadena feeds to Northeast and Glen Burnie High Schools. Chesapeake’s FARM rate is only 14%, that’s low. Chesapeake’s cluster isn’t that socio-economically different from the Broadneck area. It’s mostly middle-class with many upper-middle-class parts, a few pockets of lower-middle-class, and a few pockets of very big money near the water. I do remember that Chesapeake used to be a lot higher in the rankings a few years ago, not sure what happened. GS rates CHS’ test scores above average for the state, but it has a 2/10 equity rating and a 5/10 college readiness rating (probably because of the missing AP participation data), and those seem to be things dragging it down to a 4/10 overall. It’s in the top 30% of high schools in MD for AP participation, and my guess is that it would be rated around a 6/10 if GS had the correct AP data.

There might be 10 year round people with kids at most. Not really a kid friendly place.

Second homes / retired / kids graduated. Geared towards old money Baltimore.

Lovely place but it's isolated from both Baltimore and Annapolis so it's not easy to go to either without a lot of driving.

There are very few elementary school options for Gibson Island. Pretty much, the only schools nearby are the public schools, like Bodkin, which do pretty well in school rankings and test scores. Bodkin's scores are down a little this year, but they'll probably remain stable above 7 out of 10.

There are other schools in Pasadena, but they're all parochial. Otherwise, you'd have to drive to Severna Park and Annapolis for private non-sectarian schools.

I can't say personally, but I'd guess the only full-time residents are retired people. I know a lot of people with kids have weekend homes there though.

Seems kind of snooty. That's where that drunk Maryland state legislator injured some kids in 2012, I think.

I have friends there. Summer property.

Around 1/3 of residents are full time and the rest are 2nd homes. The private school right out side the gates is closing. Not sure what other private or catholic options are. It is Anne Arundel county if public is an option. Bodkin ES and Chesapeake HS are both "9"s on greatschools, the middle school looks a little more iffy.

Do people with children live there full time or is it mostly second homes?
