I pack in HS, becasue that is what works for our family. They are fully capable of packing it themselves and have done so when I am out of town. It just makes the mornings run more smoothly, for us, if I pack them. I also pack DH's, It is more efficient to make three lunchs at the same time than have three people trying to make their individual lunches. They are responsibe for their own breakfasts.

However, they do clean the bathrooms, laundry, vaccuum... when asked.

My kids started packing their own lunches around 5th grade. I'm shocked how many on this thread are still packing lunches for high schoolers.

I'd never be accused of coddling my kids but I did pack lunches through high school. They have crazy busy schedules, are athletes, and need to be out of the house by 6:30 am and I won't see them again before 7 pm (10 or later if it's game night).

When any member of my family leaves the house to go to school or work, they get packed lunches unless they have other plans.

Heck, in out house I always have out of state visitors who come to as tourists to DC. I pack lunches, snacks and drinks for them as well and they have always appreciated that.

We stopped making our kids' lunches when they hit high school. By that time they just preferred making their own decisions about what to pack, whether to buy lunch, or just bring a snack and eat after school let out.
