Its really no different than any other cultural difference that a couple who comes from 2 different cultures must navigate- communication is key otherwise you tend to end up retreating to your own extremes more and more as each tries to "balance" what they perceive the other to be doing. Much easier to balance if you meet closer to the middle than try to balance extremes on the ends.

FWIW, my DH and I are both white Americans but culturally are very different because of our family backgrounds, including recent immigration, etc. We have to navigate certain things all the time. Particularly what family means to us philosophically and the role of extended family, etc.

Maybe he would be less intense if he thought you cared more? It must be hard when only one parent wants their kids to succeed.

DH is indian, married for over a decade, beautiful young children. But I have to admit, now that they are going to school he is intense/wants them to succeed - I know he worked hard as a kid, but others have seen this?
