Your attitude that the reason you can't drink is because of work is disgusting and immature. Therapize THAT.

While I think it is okay for a married man to hang out w/his male friends from time to time, I also think it is important for him to spend quality time at home w/his wife and children (if he has any.)

Your posting was very broad so I am not clear on your family situation.

If you have children, do you watch them on occasion so your wife can have some free time for herself? If so, then I think it is only fair if she watches them every now + then so you can spend some time socializing w/your own friends.

Just keep in mind that since your wife enjoys spending time at home vs. going out, there will be times that you will have to compromise and spend more time at home than you may like.

After all, isn't that what marriage is about? Compromise? Give and take?

Op here. I constantly make time for her to go out with her friends. She actually chooses not to do so. There is a moms group in our kids preschool that goes to different restaurants in Raleigh area. She refuses to go out with them. On Saturday and Sunday mornings I take our son and we go out and hang out for a while about 2 to 3 hours to give her some time just to rest and relax.

I don't see what the issue is, unless she's resentful that she doesn't have equal free time to relax/socialize with her friends. If it's just the guys having a beer and talking work politics, I wouldn't be thrilled about tagging along.

I feel sorry for all the martyrs on this forum who gave up socializing once they started procreating.

There is no reason you cant go out w friends like that.. DH and i have been married over 25 years and we both do this all the time.

If it's no more than once a week, you aren't getting drunk, it's directly after work and you aren't staying out late, and you are giving DW once a week when you take the kid(s) and she can go out with friends while you are home or you take the kid(s) out while she stays home and had time to herself, then I don't see the issue. The first year of infant life though is the exception because if wife is breast feeding it may be hard for her to have her time alone.

OP, I'm a wife, we have one kid and I'm currently pregnant. My husband is the type that loves to socialize. I on the other hand, am a total homebody. I suck it up and go out with my husband and the boys every now and then. Do I go to the bars with them? No... But he can go. Do I go out to dinner with them? Sure, we all have to eat. I don't see why she can't suck it up and go. She is pregnant, not handicapped.

Op here. They joke that my wife is tied up in my basement because she never comes out with us. Sometimes the others bring their wives or girlfriends.

More info needed. Do you guys have kids? How often do you go out with your guy friends? When you do, do you get drunk? Does she have friends?

I just got a text from my boys they're meeting at a downtown sushi restaurant. We had drinks on Wednesday night after work. They're all married and a few of them have kids. Their wives are okay with them going out solo. My wife doesn't want to go out doesn't want to hang out and she gets upset when I go out. Just a group of guys in their 30s discussing their careers their lives and how to get ahead really a big group therapy session.
