Thanks everyone. There is nothing stuck to the pot, since I only boiled out water. The problem is that the inside of the pot has changed -- it's got a mottled color and matte feel to it now instead of being smooth and shiny.

Green Scotch Brite scouring pad usually works for me to get burnt stuff out. Bar Keeper or baking soda help too, but the green pad with some work will usually get it off.

DH burned something on the inside on one of my stainless steel pots and Bar Keeper's Friend eventually got it off and looking like new again. I had to scrub it hard several times over the course of about 30min. Definitely wear gloves when you use it!

Never fill an empty hot pot with water, as you will warp the pot (as you learned previously).

Baking soda, dish soap and water. Simmer. Then wash!

I think you can fill it water and put a dryer sheet in there and leave it over night . No clue why but it worked the one time I did it.

I boiled some water out of a pot and am wondering what the best way is to deal with it. It's one of those RevereWare pots. The last one in this set that I let this happen to, i put in running water right away and it seemed to have damaged the inside of the pot. It's never been the same on the inside, even though i've scrubbed it. The outside was fine. Not sure what that means. (Is there a coating on it? The inside is supposed to be stainless steel, with copper on the outside.) This time I'm just letting it cool down by itself.

Anyway what is the best way to deal with a pot that is basically heated empty? TIA
