If you have before or after care that would be in boundary for Samuel Ogle, and if Samuel Ogle has available seats, you can request a transfer.

Otherwise, transfers have to go through the transfer office during the open period (think it's spring)

I also like that they allow full year Spanish 1 starting in 7th grade, (however the students have to take a "zero" period starting at 0815 so you have to do drop-off for a quarter) so that the students can start in Spanish 3 in high school. They also have very good high school admissions results to the privates. Overall I have been pleased. Receptive, quick communication from the teachers and administration.

Thanks. Is there an appliation to the honors' classes from fifth grade. Or, do the honors' classes begin in seventh grade based on sixth grade scores? TIA.

You would need to have your child evaluated for TAG (it's the TAG kids in the honors classes) then they would be placed into those classes. Not sure of the process for transferring from private to public at the middle school level- I'm sure there may be a work around. I would call and speak with the guidance counselor for your child's grade level.

If you live in Bowie, but not zoned for SO, can you still attend. Is there an out of bound process or lottery for the honors program. TIA

Hi, OP here. Thanks for the responses. We started last week and I'm very pleased so far. She was placed in honors classes and tested into Spanish 2 (she's been in immersion most of her life and is fairly fluent). She has learning differences, so I was concerned about the class size, but she seems to be doing well so far. She really likes the school and I've been pleased with my interaction with the administration.

Thanks again for the feedback and I appreciate any additional insight.

Post 08/14/2014 15:26     Subject: Parents of Samuel Ogle Middle School Students - How is it?

Hello,

I am unexpectedly having to move my daughter for 8th grade and we are in the zone for Samuel Ogle MS. I am looking for insight from other parents about the school environment, especially for girls. Does anyone have a student there?

Thanks!
