Embassy Suites West End is a great choice, and there's another hotel (Marriott?) across the street as well. As a PP said, Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown if the gov rate is available. There are several good choices in and near Foggy Bottom - I wouldn't go any farther away. The hotels are near groceries, restaurants, metro, and interesting walking areas.

Agree with the suite option with a kitchenette. When I traveled with DS as a baby, I was able to get a two bedroom suite (this was not in DC) which was perfect (and clearly a luxury--a one bedroom would have worked too). But this allowed my parents their own bedroom. The baby and I slept in the other room, and during the day DS had our room for naps and my parents had enough space to be comfortable while inside during naps rather than feeling cooped up in a hotel room.

Get one right next to the conference location! That's the *most* convenient--you can pop in and out if you need to, or baby can we wheeled to your location for a quickie snack. Foggy Bottom is an awesome spot in DC because you can walk to almost everything, and if your mum's a walker, she's going to have a GREAT time.

As others have said, I'd look for hotel rooms that have a kitchenette and also a separate bedroom option. My preference is the embassy suites -- there is one in West End and there is also one on King Street in Alexandria.

Assuming you're bringing a stroller, mom and baby should be able to find lots of walks and adventures so long as they are near a metro stop! I think Old Town Alexandria may be a great balance for them and for you you (hop on the blue line to foggy bottom).

One Washington Circle. It is a Suite hotel with a separate kitchen. It is in Foggy Bottom so eAsy for you if you need to nip out and bf. It is opposite GW, close to the Whole Foods and Trader Joes. It is walking distance to the mall. We stayed there when we were posted overseas with a 9 month old and a 2yr old.

Ahem, well, if money is no object, the Four Seasons. It's right at the edge of Foggy Bottom/Georgetown.

I would also do the residence inn on Quincy st in Ballston.

Georgetown Suites. You can walk to Foggy Bottom and get a big room with a full kitchen. Rooms are huge, you can get a one bedroom suite so that you have two separate rooms if the baby is sleeping, etc.

We stayed at the Residence Inn in Ballston with our two month old this winter when our house lost power during for a couple days. It was great because there is a full kitchen in your room (great for washing bottles/pump parts/pacis, storing or freezing milk, making food for you, etc.), two spaces (living area and sleeping area, separated by doors, great for baby's naps, mom can go watch tv in the other room) and good size bathroom with a tub. Nice carpet on floor for tummy time on a blanket. It's also close to places to eat (IHOP, Jimmy Johns, Uncle Julio's, Sweetgreens) and the metro. Great wireless. It was also a quiet hotel and the staff were nice. Easy commute for you to Foggy Bottom.

I like the Omni in Woodley Park. My friends have stayed there and liked it. I live in Woodley Park and sometimes walk out back - they have very nice grounds. Big lawn in back and a fountain. Also overlooks Rock Creek Park (separated by a fence).

Walking distance to Zoo which will be good for your Mom. 4 month old won't care.

If your Mom is in good shape, she could also take the 1.5 mile walk up to the National Cathedral. It costs now to get in, but I found Cathedrals great for babies because they are looking up at stained glass windows. Mine liked it.

And if she is in good shape, she can walk to Dumbarton Oaks (surprisingly good fall foliage views from up there).

I am deployed overseas and will return to DC for a conference for a week in October. I need to be at Foggy Bottom for work, but can take taxis, etc. My mom is coming from out of state to watch my four month old who I will bring because I am nursing. Good hotel recommendations since mom and baby will be alone all day? Thanks.
