OP - I am with you! It is exceptionally annoying when someone does this, after you have waited for awile for the elevator to show up, and then after the elevator is stalled as the latecomer gets on, it allows time for MORE people to come and do the same thing!! I find it is inconsiderate on he elevator stopper's part to stop a door that is already closing rather than wait for another elevator.

9:16 has it right. What's the big deal if you have to wait 15 more seconds? Geesh!

Ah OP I get it. You are super duper important and those 15 seconds cost you millions. I'm sure your assistant typed out this post for you.

In our building you call your floor from a touchpad in the elevator lobby and it tells you what elevator to get on. You can't choose a floor once you're in the elevator, so without knowing what floor you're going to latecomers are better off just calling the next elevator. I no longer feel obligated to hold the door for anyone. Perfect.

No, if I see someone waving or rushing to get to the elevator, I'll hold it open with my arm or the button. It's courtesy.

I am careful though, not to get an arm or leg squished by the elevator doors. I remember that poor resident that was decapitated by faulty elevator doors.

I also often hold the elevator door for people. But I'm always amused to see people sprinting for the elevator in my building at work, where there are 9 other elevators and you never have to wait more than about 45 seconds.

So 15 seconds makes someone inconsiderate? Wouldn't even register with me. Plus I'd just hit the close doors button if I was in that much of a rush. But yeah, 15 seconds wouldn't register.

No, it doesn't bother me. The elevator isn't your private property. You can wait. It's public.

You know when you are in the elevator and the doors are closing and that ONE lazy fat ass person sticks a limb between the closing doors so they can get in too? Then the doors re- open and we all stand awkwardly in the elevator for an extra 15 seconds staring at the idiot who did it while the elevator stopper pretends to be oblivious to who this is inconsiderate and inconveniencing every one else? So annoying! You should have gotten there earlier like everyone else in the elevator did. Plus more elevators are coming - you don't have to get on this particular one!
