Agree with above. Leaning towards B because of the "do what you love philosophy'" which can pay off over the longer term. Still, I would need to know the actual figure to give my final rec.

OP you need to not give dollar amounts but %.

if you make 100k right now, 90 to do something you like a lot more is worth it compared to 106k doing something you dislike.

the calculus changes if the starting point is 40-75k.

Kids with single parents need that parent to be a psychological bedrock and if job 2 makes said parent's professional life more fulfilling/stable/solid/happy, that means said parent can put more energy into her child.

kids with two parents can better afford to have one of the parents less satisfied/miserable at work.

If you can swing it financially, I would go with job b. That's what I did 5 years ago, and it's been really good for me.

Job A- same as what I have been doing (which I'm tired of), 6K increase plus good benefits
Job B- in field where I want to be, a 10K decrease (other benefits unknown), good friend will be my direct supervisor
