It depends where you're applying. To top universities there definitely is a bias against Asians because they're already well represented. If you work in a STEM field there might already be good Asian representation.

I'm hoping race based questions will disappear by the time my kids are old enough.

I have wondered about a similar question, b/c I have two Chinese-American daughters, but my DH and I are Caucasian. I have wondered, when we get to this point, if it would make a difference one way or another as to which "box" they check (say, on college applications) and, if so, which one would be "better."

We have jackasses all over DC. It hasn't been limited to the WH these past 8 yrs. It goes beyond the 8 yrs. There was a bigger jackass there before him.

For Ivy leagues, I heard it's better to omit the Asian part. Maybe it's not the same for half-Asian.

I'm half asian and have always put both because it's what I am. Also, many places (school and work places) might favor a person of color if they are interested in diversity. I know that was a key factor when I got my first job out of college.
