I make batches of smoothies and then use them for storage. I can shake my smoothie to make it perfectly blended again after it's settled. I also like storing food in glass, rather than plastic.

It's not supposed to be a drinking vessel, since there are screw threads that do not make it very comfortable to drink out of.

I remember drinking from them as a kid when we would go to South Carolina. Definitely not a new thing.

Why would it matter?

All the folks on Rocky Top, who get their corn from a jar, have been doing it for nearly a century.

A lot of country people have always used them as drinking glasses, but mason jars have become popular with city folk, thanks in part to Pinterest.

tradition started with moonshine. now it's just kitch or nostalgia

We've done it for years. A case is super cheap and we use the jars both for drinking and food storage.

Why not?

I've done it for years. Don't have any currently in my place, but when I was in college we did. Mom and Dad used to can and make jams, so I'd steal their smaller ones to store dope in and they'd give me the larger ones as move-in presents.

Is this a new fad or have people always done it?
