There are days when I think how easy it would be if I could just cover my hair! However, I would hate being required to do so. I don't object if others want to--but when you see women with faces covered, in my mind, that is too much.

The problem is not the wearing of head scarves, it's when the wearing of it becomes legalistic. And then inch by inch becomes more and more legalistic with added restrictions.

The picture above is an adornment worn during a Hindu wedding, similar to some women wearing a veil to a Christian wedding. She doesn't wear it all time , she doesn't have to make sure not a single hair is peeping through, she doesn't have to make sure her neck is covered, etc. She also can wear it for a few hours and take it off. She can put it on again, with hair showing or no hair showing the next day if she feels like it. Wear it in the morning, take it off in the afternoon, it doesn't have to be all time.

Almost all religions try to cover up women in some way at some time. My issue (WITH ALL OF THEM) is the idea that women are 1) property and 2) still to blame for men's behavior, and thus must cover up.

Where there are more devout Muslims, there are more headscarves. Same with Judism and even Christians.

I do not wear the head scarf. But I have A LOT of friends and family members who do, and all of them have done it by choice, often despite the objections of mothers/grandmothers, etc.

To me, it's somewhat upsetting that a religious observance involves covering a woman's head, of all things. Like, what is immodest or sexually appealing about a head of hair? Some women certainly have fabulous hair, but still....

When I see a family where the man is wearing a t-shirt and shorts, and the woman is covered head to toe, I can't help but believe that this particular belief creates a double standard and overemphasizes women's bodies as sexual objects. I'm not a huge fan of women of other religions wearing haircoverings and the like, either.=

Most people do not have a single issue with the scarf thing.

It is when it extends to arms, feet, fingers, faces, etc that gets us all up in arms.

That and the fact that it is dictated by men who have little regard for women, and that it often goes along with a lot of other subjugation of women.

When you have the power to make another human being into an invisible shadow with no rights, you are adding a lot of evil to the world.

I know women who didn't cover in their home nation (Turkey), but cover here because they have the freedom to do so here and Turkey doesn't allow the hijab in schools and other public institutions.

In some of these countries the men treat you like sh!t/a hooker if your head isn't covered. They aren't expected to have any self control. Each woman has to decide if they are willing to fight that fight in public every day or just cover your head.

The girl in the picture is not Muslim, she is Hindu. And that is traditional bridal wear not everyday clothing.
