Don't wait if you feel ready. The advice to wait is outdated, and you're more likely to get pregnant if you try right away. I miscarried naturally at 6 weeks and I counted that bleeding as a period and got pregnant immediately. My OB said that the advice to wait until you had a normal period was just for dating purposes, and the early ultrasound can do that just about as well.

If you're emotionally ready, go for it.

I think it's fine to try again if you had a normal period and generally feel physically normal. I had an early miscarriage and the first two cycles after that were pretty crazy with early ovulation, terrible PMS, acne when I rarely have acne, sore breasts, period stopping and starting, etc. So it's probably just as well that we didn't conceive during that time-- possibly that hormonal weirdness would have been bad for the baby. But if you feel physically normal, then I would say go ahead. Good luck!

Don't wait OP. I also got pregnant before getting my period after an early miscarriage. I don't think there is actually any associated risk (to the pregnancy or the baby). I thought doctors recommend waiting just so they can know you are regular again - ie so they know what's what. Not for your health. Good luck!!!

Miscarried naturally at 11 weeks early October last fall- got a + test early November (no period in between) and delivered a healthy baby 2 weeks ago! Good luck, OP!

After the first D&C at 8 weeks we didn't wait at all (except for the 2 week healing time) and got a positive test around 4 weeks later. It wasn't even a squinter but it was negative the next day. I have no idea if it was residual hormones or a chemical. So my advice is if you do try right away, wait until your hormones are totally gone so there isn't confusion later.

We did end up pregnant "for real" 3 months later. Unfortunately I miscarried again right away and needed a 2nd D&C (dr suspected it was ectopic given my erratic numbers and bleeding so that's why she did the D&C, to see if my numbers would go down and they did). We waited 1 period after that and have been trying since. No luck and we are now on 4th cycle with progesterone and lovenox.

I had a mc in june, was 8 weeks. No d&c needed, my dr told me to wait 3 periods before starting again.
We will not do that. We've been ttc for almost 4 years (2 mc) and I cannot waste any time due to my age.

OP here: I'm super old. 41 and a half. I did all the regular testing that my regular ob-gyn and my ob doctor recommended and everything checked out as normal/fine (except for my age). I know that there are other, more unusual problems that could only be diagnosed by a specialist but after only one miscarriage, no one is recommending more testing at this point. i didn't have the fetus/tissue sampled--again, after only one miscarriage the doctors didn't advise it. For background, my mom had me at 43... so I hoping I had a chance at this...

I should clarify that was Feb 2010. I got pregnant that July.

I wouldn't wait. I had a D&C in February and had a strange issue where my period didn't return and I had to take prometrium after 3 months. The first cycle after that, we tried again - I got pregnant without issue (healthy baby). Period then returned after weaning and I got pregnant again a few years later with another healthy child (kids now 3 and 9 months). Since your period came back easily I would go ahead. Good luck!

I didn't wait. I was 38, with a 1 yo. Had an early miscarriage carriage (assume blighted ovum), got pregnant again immediately, learned there was a problem at the 6 week ultrasound, had a D&C at 10 weeks, and they determined a chromosomal issue. I waited one period just to make sure everything was cleaned out, and then got pregnant again immediately with a healthy, happy baby. My doc said that waiting after a miscarriage is usually for emotional, rather than physical, healing. I'm glad I didn't wait. If you feel anxiety about your age and are emotionally ok about your miscarriage (I'm sorry you're going through it), then just start trying again.

I wouldn't wait if your age is a factor. How old are you? Miscarriages are often the cause of chromosomal issues. If you have another one, I'd opt for testing to see if there is another cause. GL!

I've seen two different doctors and gotten two different opinions. I am experiencing my first period after the miscarriage now and one doctor tells me I can go ahead and try later this month. Another doctor says to have at least 2 periods before I try. I'm older, so every month counts. But obviously, I want to wait if it is more likely to lead to a healthier baby. Seems like there's no definitive scientific answer on this one, so I'd love to hear anecdotal evidence from moms who have been through it. Did you try to conceive as soon as your body had returned to "normal" or did you wait to start trying? And what do you wish you had done? THANKS!
