Especially for younger children, I believe that more than the academics, a teacher who is kind, treats the children well, make them feel valued and respected is very important. Most parents can help teach their children learn at home if needed for the academics, but their happiness and emotional wellness, encouragement is most critical at that age. That is when they build most of their confidence. But it is true that we cannot protect them from everything but all we can do is our best. I believe it helps to ask our children everyday how their day went by and try to understand what goes in the class. Building their confidence at home, encouraging them and helping them develop resilience are crucial. With all that your child should be okay, wish you the best ! Just my 2 cents ?

I can relate. I agree that of course life will never be perfect, but we all have to show up to our workplace with a positive attitude and work to be as competent as possible. I treat teachers with kindness and respect and they deserve that. However, it is inexcusable to be incompetent. Luckily we have only had one completely incompetent teacher. I say "we" because I ended up having to teach my child everything and correct the things she taught that were downright wrong (principal had many complaints and agreed).

It is normal to worry, but life is never going to be perfect for your child! They need to deal with little problems when they are little kids, so that they can deal with big problems as adults. "Issues" are inevitable and normal.

I am already starting to worry about who my child's teacher will be this year. I know there is nothing I can do about it (yes I did fill out "the form" last spring but it is still a crapshoot.) I just want someone who will be kind to the children and is able to teach at a reasonable level. Too many teachers these days just seem annoyed/grumpy. Really don't want that.
