"That bubble" is a lot more roomier than your small mind.

I'm not generally precious about language, but I think this is a really good change. Thanks.

This suggestion was made when I first created the forum. I've always thought it as a good idea and I'm been meaning to do it. I just kept not getting around to it, but I'll do it now.

OP here. My best friend has a son with Down Syndrome. She taught me about People First Language. Here's a good article about it:

I am fine with it either way. Words don't make me cringe. I look for the intended meaning.

Interesting comment. I have a child with special needs. I never gave the wording much thought. I understand the name of the forum and what the content contained within is. But you make a valid point and it is a nice idea. Thank you for bringing it up.

Good idea.

These children are people first, and happen to have particularl needs that affect a small or large portion of their life. They should not be defined primarily by a perceived handicap.

Jeff, would you consider changing the name of the "Special Needs Kids" section to "Kids With Special Needs" ? It's a small thing to employ People First Language, emphasizing the people and not the disabilities. I cringe whenever I see "Special Needs Kids" so I just thought I would ask.

Thank you for your consideration.
