What was the previous principal like? A disciplinarian? Suspected of cheating?

The current principal is a nice guy but I think he hardly instills a sense of fear when it comes to inappropriate behavior. Learning doesn't happen until the behavior piece is under control.

I think the same thing is happening at Tubman.

Yes. They were supposed to combine with Seaton. However, Seaton & Garrison's combined population exceeds Seaton's capacity.

This would be bad considering the enthusiasm behind Seaton currently.

This! There are neighbors who genuinely want the school to succeed. Some are idealists, if foolish. Others are practical, it improves their property value. In any event, yes there is a group of neighbors who really support the school, with time and effort and even money. Just not with their own children. It's a small group, but the families with options send their children to HRCS's, OOB's, etc.

In any event, yes there is a group of neighbors who really support the school, with time and effort and even money. Just not with their own children. The Garrison principal isn't very good.

We toured Garrison and this doesn't surprise me at all. It's way overhyped with no reason that it should be.

Take a look at Seaton's results, by contrast. We toured both schools and Seaton was head and shoulders above Garrison in all measures. I wasn't surprised to see big drops for Garrison and significant gains for Seaton. It's disappointing but Garrison has a LONG way to go.

I was surprised, too. I think part of it - and this goes for some other schools as well - has to do with small testing sample size.

If I recall correctly, Garrison was under investigation during erasuregate... They have a different principal now...

IDK. I wouldn't really put too much stock in a drop in scores from one class to another - esp at a school like Garrison that has so few kids in the upper grades. One kid can make a 9% difference.

But 26% proficiency overall? THAT is just hard to spin. No matter which way you slice it.

Kids are disruptive and can't be tamed. Teachers leave after one year. 5 aren't returning this year.

Garrison's scores were never unbelievably high. The scores were better and improving slowly until this administration removed the previous principal. Scores having been slowly dropping ever since.

Maybe previous test scores were higher because of cheating. See the Tubman thread.

Second year with massive test drop (9%) This year only 26% proficient overall.

Why is this school so broken considering all the parent and neighborhood support?
