UVa and UNC (Chapel Hill, at any rate) have long had better academic reps than UMd.


Agreed. I have a child there and think UMd is a great school, but 10 years ago its reputation wasn't anywhere near what it is today.

+1. As much as I am fond of UMd. UVA and UNC have much more of a national reputation.

I actually think we need more lists so that colleges and uni's stop trying to game the US News one and start putting their $$ into focusing on undergrad teaching and keeping costs down.
