They used to feed it to prisoners, but it was considered cruel and unusual so they could only feed it to them once per week.
Then the Rockefellers bought all the Maine barrier islands around Acadia so that they could bring their friends up to "rough it" in their new rustic mansions.
They would bike, hike and boat aroundthe islands, and the locals would set up lobster boils around the islands for them and the other elite.
The rich people loved the lobster so much that they brought it into the realm of being a delicacy instead of food for the poors.
