I really like this name buuuut not sure about using it with a one syllable last name. Beck Smith just sounds too short. Beck White just sounds like it's missing something. Obviously we don't know your last name so maybe it sounds better with Beck? But if not, maybe use it as a middle name, with a 2-3 syllable first name.

For a one syllable last name, your best bet would be to use this as a middle name.

All names sound best with varied syllables. Like a two syllable first name, three syllable middle name and single syllable last name.

I love it & since it's also a family name, it's a no-brainer! Like a PP said, using it as first name really depends on how it sounds with your last name.

I like the name Beck, and I might slightly prefer the longer name Beckett, but the family significance is good reason to go for just Beck. Besides, I really like Beck the musician - it wouldn't be a bad celebrity name association to have.

I might worry ever so slightly about Becky. With Beck as a middle name your DC wouldn't have that problem.

Can you do Beckett (which I love) and call him Beck? I also know a Beckham (which I hate).

I like it. People will probably think it's short for "Beckett", which has become popular in certain circles here of late. My only reservation would be using a one-syllable first name with a one-syllable last name, which sounds a little choppy, IMO.

Bek means beak in some languages. Like the beak of a bird

It's great as a middle name. Could work as a first name depending on the last name, and assuming the last name doesn't incorporate the same "e" sound (because that could just get too cutesy). It is distinctive and potentially very strong and confident sounding, again depending on the last name. I certainly don't think it will be the weirdest name on the grade school playground, especially since people have grown accustomed to Beckhams, Breckens, etc.
