Just want to add, showing intial emotion (jealousy, surprise, etc) isn't entitled. Entitled would be asking for a different nurse because they couldn't have a pregnant one, complaining to the office manager that it was insensitive to have pregnant nurses and insist they either be hidden from patients or put on leave. Those are entitled. Having a normal emotional reaction that you keep to yourself is NOT entitled.

Well pp put it a little harsh, but I think this is what other pp was talking about when she said the only thing you have control over is how you choose to handle it. I agree with fake it til you make it. I did a clinical rotation at a fertility clinic and there were 2 pregnant nurses. They were VERY aware of how their pregnancy would impact the patients.
But the reality is that desk jobs aren't a huge part of the nursing world so they can't "hide them away" until after they give birth.

Nor should they. Pregnancy is a real thing and it's illegal.

EVERY "others are pregnant and I'm not" post is entitled. These nurses are supposed to quit their jobs because OP is defective?

The nurse I loved best at my clinic got pregnant while I was going through a long ordeal trying for my second.

I definitely felt sad and unlucky. But I simply forced myself to feel happy for her. Fake it until you make it kind of thing. She was a good person and was rooting for me so damn hard and really, her being pregnant had no bearing on whether I would get pregnant.

It's hard though. You feel the ugly emotion and then you feel like crap for feeling the ugly emotion. What a great double whammy. The only thing you DO have control over is how you choose to handle the whole thing.

Forget the nursing staff!....Dr. Reh at Dominion Fertility has been (noticeably) pregnant this spring/summer. I like her a lot, but will admit I had similar strange momentarily reaction when I first realized it myself.

There was a nurse at one of my clinics who was pregnant twice during the time I was a patient (and obviously, not pregnant myself). Seeing her always made me sort of angry in a way that I knew was irrational but couldn't help. I mean, what did I really expect--that she wouldn't ever have kids because she worked at a fertility clinic? That she'd quit or go on leave until after the baby was born? Nevertheless, it sucked.

I think the feelings are normal and you have to actively work to overcome them. Having come through infertility with a child, I feel awful about how bitter and negative I was. It wasn't really that it was an invalid emotion, it was more that I made myself unhappy about something that brought others joy on top of being miserable for myself and my own situation.

At one clinic my (young) nurse had just come back from giving birth to IVF twins. So, she wasn't pregnant at the time, but couldn't have taken much time off and was wearing a corset/binder thing. I think she told me to give me hope (see, this could be you!) but it had the opposite effect on me.

I know most of the time we discuss our feelings when we find out about pregnant women in our lives, private lives, but what about when you are going for appointments and such?
