I love the pictures but with 2 kids now (one a baby) it is hard to manage the camera on outings with all the stuff, baby in ergo etc. DH refuses to learn anything about using it so if he tries to take any pictures they are overexposed, etc. Maybe I might spend my $$ on the new like-DSLR cameras that are smaller

You could look on Amazon for recommendations for point and shoot cameras that are good with fast-moving subjects (action or sports mode) if you're not sure a DSL is worth the price. We're pretty happy with our point and shoot, which was about $140 last year.

We got ours after our 2nd was born and I love it. It takes fantastic pictures, particularly actions shots. I use it mostly in automatic (usually the "kid" or "action" mode, often with it set to take multiple pictures in rapid succession to try to get at least one good one of squirmy kids). I also enjoy experimenting with manual settings, though I haven't had much time for that yet.

This is us too. But, I don't regret buying it because my wife loves it (even though she uses it about once a year).

No, but we also have a point and shoot that is the size of an iphone but takes better pics. Canon Powershot

I also regret not having bought one sooner. There's an 8-month window of lousy family shots b/c my child was faster than my non-SLR could keep up with. With the digital SLR in sport mode, we have amazing, fun family photos. I had taken photography classes decades ago, and have done some online tutorials, but am very much an amateur and am able to get some amazing photos.

Bought it the Christmas before DD was born (in May 2 years ago) and use it a lot. Definitely used it more when she was little (and couldn't run away) but still use it for all vacations, family get togethers, etc. Didn't take a class but did a lot of online research and experimenting when we got it. I've taken pix for family weddings, newborns, etc (and I am FAR from even an amateur photographer, the camera is that good

It was to me. I couldn't find a point and shoot without a shutter delay. That alone was worth yeti g a DSLR. That and shutter priority capability to get sports.

We don't use it enough, I regret that. But the camera phone is right there, so we usually use that.

Trying to decide whether or not to invest in a digital slr to photograph my children. Anybody regret purchasing one of these ?
