I felt the same way -- actually trembling -- right up until I gave notice. Then it was done and I was fine. You will be fine.
Your employer and co-workers also will be fine, because they will replace you. Leave your files in order, remove your personal items (no chapstick in the desk drawer, etc.), and prepare some kind of leave-behind memo so nothing important gets dropped when you go. That's more than most people do, frankly.
Congrats on your new job!

I am leaving because the other opportunity is a significant promotion and is a good fit.
Then you really have no choice. It's not like it is a lateral move. They will figure things out. They did before you.

By knowing that they would do the same to you and not look back.

Your colleagues will be fine. No one is irreplaceable.

You think, "Well, the alternative is that I stay here." Quickly you see you are making the right decision.

I am about to give notice to my boss that I am leaving, and I feel terrible about leaving because I carry a significant amount of work and worry about leaving my colleages stranded. How do you I get over this?
