- I think Wake is even more Greek than UVA
- UVA is a little more parochial than Wake because 2/3rds of the kids come from Virginia (including some pretty sheltered ROVA kids)
- Both are in the ACC but UVA has somewhat more successful teams. Wake's athletic complex is impressive though
- Wake has a reputation of being demanding

My DC loved UVA (not accepted, would have gone), liked Wake (accepted but chose not to go).

They are very similar but slightly different outlook.
Wake Forest is an enclave of old money and is a religious school. Very serious student body. An expensive school with expensive people in it overall (I know there will be a few who say they know very middle class kids who go there -- ok, but a minority) The town of WS is a nice -- an arts center, the law and medical school are very good, and it is a jumping off point for the whole South.
UVA is the flagship school for Va, and is much more diverse economically. But VA embraces the two class system -- the rich and others. That attitude is prevalent VA. Also UVA has a style that seems pretty mandatory. (You will know it when you see it) But for making contacts in the business and govt community in VA you cant beat it between the two. Charlottesville is a beautiful town, but it is pretty full of itself.

Seconded - UVA is a MUCH stronger school for OP's childrens interests. The network is wider and stronger, the recruiting is stronger, the course offerings and resources available. UVA no question (and I'm not a UVA booster/fan - i think it is full of douchebags and wouldn't want to go myself).

Having interviewed kids at both schools as an employer, I'd say the average student in the quant/business/econ majors seems better at UVA than at WF.

We toured both but have not sent anyone to either (oldest is rising senior). Son prefers WF. Size is obviously a factor. DS preferred WF because it is smaller, but that is not for everyone. Probably less likely to use TA's, which I know are a factor at UVA. US News ranks WF as one of the top schools for undergrad teaching (UVA doesn't appear on that list), which we think is really important. WF has beautiful dorms, and at UVA they didn't show us inside any, but we were told some aren't air conditioned (unlike WF). Flip side, Charlottesville is a cute college town, and at WF the area around the campus didn't appear walkable or especially nice. There might be more economic diversity at a state school, which my DS sees as a plus.

Does anyone have experience with BOTH Wake and UVA sufficient to compare and contrast? I know that UVA is a public school, but the student bodies seem similar. DC is most interested in business/economics with some international relations.
