It doesn't even do a decent job of blending up protein drinks

Tons of prep work is needed because you need to cut up food in tiny portions because as a PP mentioned the cups are very tiny. If you put more than a couple tablespoons of anything in, it simply doesn't get blended.

I have a magic bullet. It works great if the foods aren't too hard. I use it for smoothies, pureeing veggies, making salsas and dips (guacamole) etc.

My other issue is that the cups are pretty small so you can't make very big portions of anything.

I am the Ninja fan. Which one did she have? I have the prep and chop one (3 different sizes) and I use it for everything from making salsa to making ice cream. Just curious what you did not like about it.

I had one, but the motor was too weak to crush ice. It ended up breaking, so I bought a Ninja and love it!

Good or no? Do you use it for anything other than smoothies?
