I am very happy with my down comforter from LL Bean. And I know if there's ever a problem with it I can return it or they will replace it. I went with the lightest weight, and am never ever cold. It might even be a bit too warm for me as I sleep hot.

Choose a down alternative from Overstock. We love ours and it wasn't that expensive.

I've been buying ours at The Company Store for many years. Love them. Size is great, and they offer multiple options for heaviness. I'm unsure about how animal-friendly they are though. I will look into that next time I buy. Never thought if it before.

I just bought a new one last year and took a long time looking for one. My main focus points were overall size and the amount of down inside the duvet. I ended up with one form Crate and Barrel because they have larger sizes and there is lots of down inside. I love it! They are also on sale right now through July 23rd.

Honestly, I was always too hot with our down comforter and wanted something cooler. I chose a silk comforter from Lily Silk. Luxurious but not hot.

My 2 cents having bought a new one last year. In our area, it doesn't really get all that cold in the winter, so I didn't feel that I needed to buy a really heavy quilt. And that helped save some money. I also bought a quilt size one size larger than our bed. We have a queen bed and I bought a king size comforter and it works great when there are 2 people in the bed - you might want to reconsider the queen size if you have a queen bed. I bought mine at Macy's on sale and got a great price. I would suggest not falling into having to have the top of the line down quilt. Make sure that the quilt is sewn into square baffles and not vertical or horizontal baffles that would allow the down to shift to one side of the quilt.

I'd start by figuring out which brand doesn't torture animals. I've sworn off down since I learned most are not byproducts of the food industry like I had assumed. I think pacific down is supposed to be humane. I wouldn't buy any old brand because there really are naked tortured geese walking around and it pisses me off to no end.

It's time to retire my old down comforter that I received as a gift from family years ago back when I was single. I just started looking for a new one online but I'm not sure how to choose. I've looked at Lands End and Garnett Hill and a couple other websites. They sure are expensive, like more than $200 up to $500 or more. How much is too much to pay? Is is reasonable to pay $500 for a comforter? Can anyone recommend a brand or store? Thanks very much. We need a queen size.
