I work in a very small office and only go out with coworkers twice a year. It's not a requirement.

This is hurting you how? Sounds like your just envious of her happiness. Here's a free tip, doesn't matter how much money you make. Feeling rich is, well, a feeling. A multimillionaire can feel poor and someone making 35k can feel rich.

She is from a teeny tiny poor town in upstate NY. Her parents never went to college. She has barely traveled anywhere. There's nothing wrong with that but...

Since relocating to DC (originally as a nanny) and marrying some guy she met on the internet, she thinks she has made it big. All she talks about is shopping. She acts like she's so oozing with money. She drives a leased BMW SUV. She said proudly one day, I mean... my husband makes a lot of money... almost $100k! We work together as secretaries so I know she's not bringing much $$ to the table. She lives in a dilapidated TH in Bethesda. She only spends money on clothes, cars...things that make her appear outwardly "wealthy".

I went to lunch with her one day and she legit took the bread from the bread basket and put it in her purse. And then tipped the valet with dimes!!! Clearly she had never been to a nice restaurant before and was totally clueless. During lunch she bragged about her weekend shopping extravaganzas... and how she picked out the *perfect* new blah blah blah...

I want to scream STOP TRYING SO HARD! Just act like a real person. Own your background, live within your means, talk about a variety of things (not just material sh*t). You are not rich! I know you're in debt up to your eyeballs trying to continue this charade...

WWYD??? I don't know how much longer I can tolerate this...
