Range is great! Small plates though - you don't just order one thing! Get a bunch of things and share!

Disagree wholeheartedly with mintwood. But yes, come to DC, for Komi.

We left hungry from Range. Almost went to Cheesecake Factory across the way to go eat again.

OP wants a place easy to drive to. That's not Bethesda.

I think Black Market Bistro is the best of the Blacks family.

I like Food Wine and Co. Grapeseed is ok.

Don't have any Moco recs, but 1789 or CityZen would fit the bill.

I like Clydes.

I've heard great things about Food & Wine Company in Bethesda but haven't been.

Black's in Bethesda. Same people as BlackSalt but slightly different menu.
Wildwood Kitchen, although the menu is very short - might not be ideal if there are picky eaters.

Ideally in MoCo, but somewhere in DC that is easy to drive to would be fine too. It will be 5 adults, one of whom is a guest visiting from overseas. No very ethnic foods. My ideas so far are:

- black salt
- range
- Ruth Chris/Morton's.

Any other ideas?
