If you are going to be working in NoVA and you want MCPS, you want the 20816 zipcode so you can easily get to Virginia via Chain Bridge or the Beltway At Clara Barton Pky. If you also want diversity, you want the part of 20816 that feeds to Westland MS and B-CC HS instead of Pyle and Whitman. B-CC is not particularly convenient to the neighborhoods in 20816 but Westland and the elementary schools - Westbrook in particular - are. So if you're doing drop off and pickup with ES and MS they are right there and your HS kid will need to be more independent.

Where in VA do you work, OP? Are we talking Reston, or Rosslyn/Courthouse?

If you work in N. Arlington, it's really not a bad drive via 16th St. and Rock Creek Parkway. I do it every day!

There are lots of rentals in CC. Lots of split level and ramblers that are rentals with 4 bedrooms (3 upstairs and 1 downstairs) in your price range. I live here.

OP, is your work in Virginia near a metro station?

I don't about Chain Bridge but the commute over to VA via the beltway to VA has become a nightmare. Even during the summer, it is just brutal between Tysons and 270. We're thinking about moving just because of how bad it has become. If the OP has 3 kids to pick up, it can be VERY stressful.

Agree re BCC district in MD. Maybe AU park on the DC side. Not sure how many rentals are in those neighborhoods though , you might be limited to where you can find a rental house. Maybe look at some rental options then come back and post neighborhoods for opinions.

OP if you are interested in high school soccer in MCPS be aware that tryouts/pre season starts August 11 or 13 (forget which). If you don't try out you don't play.

I agree with PP, that Westbrook might be a good fit. Not very diverse at the elem level, but better in middle and high school.

To a completely different state? I didn't know that a state could force you to move, like being expelled or deported. I want to look into this because there are some people I want to send to Florida.

A completely different state that is just on the other side of the Potomac River. It's not like the OP is moving to Montana.

Why would you move to MD if you work in VA? The commute is terrible and the VA schools are better.

I have 3 daughters , 1 elementary, 1 middle and 1 high school and need to move from VA to MD or DC before school open in the next few weeks. There are situations that are focing me to move soon.
Please provide me suggestions areas that will combine all good schools for all. I am looking for a school with strong academics, some diversity at least and welcoming community. Also are which has good atheletics lik e soccer and swimming.
Also I don't want to go too deep in the suburb as my work is in VA. I hear chevychase area is good, any thoughts ? I will be renting for the first year at least. I am planning to spend $4000- $4500 for rent for 4 bedroom house, is that doable ?
