LOL! This is the most ridiculous post I've read on DCUM today. An 8 month old is playing with their hands!

My 8 month old girl does the same thing, she also wrings her hands together, waves, bangs things, etc. I am not concerned.

Mine did all kinds of strange stuff with her hands--turning and twisting her wrists. It's like she figured out she could do this new thing, and did it a lot, and then stopped doing it once the novelty wore off and moved on to some other goofy new thing.

My 11 month old niece did this, but now it's progressed to her waving. I am wondering if it's just a step in discovering how to make various hand motions?

this is OP - it's a term often used to describe autistic behaviors, which is why it gave me a bit of pause. He does stop doing it if otherwise distracted, and as I said above his other behaviors don't exhibit cause for concern. Trying not to be neurotic - just wondering if anyone else's baby had done this kind of thing!

OP here - not particularly, just because he exhibits no other signs and if anything tends the other way - is a much more social, smiley baby than my older son (who's not autistic), lifts arms to be picked up, constantly giggles, etc. But googling did pick up that possibility, though it was a symptom in conjunction with many others, and in mostly older kids.

My son started this weird sniffing thing at around seven months - I searched every website thinking it was some sign of a serious problem. Then he stopped doing it.

I doubt it is anything more than your son figured out how to twirl his wrists and he likes the feeling - for now.

Hi - I'm a second time mom to an 8 month old DS. He is super social and smiley, makes tons of sounds, plays peekaboo, sits great, army crawls, feeds himself, all that good stuff. However, over the past few weeks, he's been doing this crazy thing with his wrists where he twists/twirls them all around, almost like he's revving a motorcycle. He's just started (intermittently) clapping, so maybe he's just discovered this is another cool thing his hands can do? Either way it is kind of funky looking and his daycare provider also mentioned it to me yesterday (not in a concerned way, just more like, wow he's doing this funny thing a ton this week!)

Anyone BTDT? I have an older son too but he never did this. Googling isn't turning up much!
